Summary -
"The Hunger Games", in which each year a boy and a girl of the ages from 12-18 are taken from every district are taken from it's people and all are forced to fight to the death. The winner receives fame, fortune, and a place to live forever without working, but the're still screwed up for life. Katniss Everdeen, from District 12, lives with her sister and mother, illegally hunting in the woods to support them both. Soon then her 12 year old sister is chosen to be in the next Hunger Games. She is horrified and nervous . S
he volenteers in place of her sister to fight in the games. The boy who is chosen is Peeta Mellark, who long ago, on a rainy night when she was starving and had failed to bring food for her family, gave her a piece of bread, keeping her, and in turn, her family from death. What she doesn't know is that Peeta is in love with her. Soon they are thrown into interviews on live T.V. and Peeta confesses his love for her on the live broadcast. They are soon thrown into the arena and fight they're way through the games. However, when almost everyone is dead, it is announced that 2 people can win as long as they're from the same district. Soon it is down to Katniss and Peeta. Neither want to kill each other, so Katniss suggests that they double suicide. This scares the hosts of the games, as they wouldn't have a victor is that happened, so it is allowed that they both win.
Theme -
The theme in The Hunger Games is survival, and keeping your humanity as you try to survive. Katniss and Peeta must survive the games of course, but they also must survive their daily lives in the district. The capitol has made life very difficult for those living in the districts. To survive the lack of food and necessary equipment requires great strength of spirit.
Authors tone-
The authors tone is sad. She is trying to give the people who are reading a different kind of perspective . The people of Panem are living poorly and are starving.The Capitol of Panem is a group of people who control the districts of Panem.The Hunger Games is a game to watch innocent kids die, for no reason. In the story Katniss puts flowers around Rue because she wanted to tell the Capitol that all of the tributes are not just a piece in their games. If a person presses three fingers onto his lips and points them to the sky, that is a salute. When the time of Rue's death, Katniss covers Rue's body with flowers and presses three fingers onto his lips and points them to the sky. She salutes District 11 for their loss of Rue.
Symbols -
1 ) The mocking jay represents defiance in the hunger games. Mocking jays become a link between Katniss and Rue, with the two using the birds to communicate. When Katniss later sees mockingjays, they remind her of Rue, makes her hate the capital even more .
2) When Rue dies, Katniss decorates her body with flowers as a means the memory of Rue, but also to undefined the Capitol.
3 ) The dresses Katniss wears is not just and ordinary dress , also come to symbolize her spirit.
4 ) Panem is the country in which The Hunger Games takes place, and it symbolizes a dystopian United State.
5) The mocking J also symbolizes the death of Rue and to go against the capital .
